Hi Richy,

it is called a torsion spring  https://www.acxesspring.com/torsion-spring-design.html

have you got the dimensions.

There are a number of places that can knock up springs  https://www.leespring.com/uk_torsion_spec.asp?springType=T&forWhat=Search

or you could make your own - piano wire of Ebay - measure your wire thickness and order a length of the correct gauge.

Or contact one of the PI overhaul companies that deal with our cars.

Hi Richy,

Do not use “uprated” springs as these will increase wear.

Hi Waldi,

the torsion spring should not increase the load on the spindle as the loads are going around the circumference.

Unlike a tension spring that has a force vector going through the spindle to cause the loading/wear.

Hi Roger,

They do. The spring exerts a torque and a force, since the spring force F acts on an arm (a mm) on the lever.

the resultant torque is Mw = F. a.

the resultant force is F.

Hi Roger,

Cheers,
