Diff output shaft locking nuts

Recommended Posts

Hi all

At the stage of putting the diff back together after doing the seals and having a look inside. All seems well no metal fragments or wear marks to any teeth and it all feels nice and smooth. But I can't bring myself to pay over £20 for two new nyloc nuts from Rimmers.

Anyone know of an alternative source? I've found a few sites on flea bay but I'm not sue if they are the correct size.

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy,

if you do not want to pay for the quality then you need to be inventive.

One should not reuse nylok nuts as the nylon has the thread cut in when done up.

If you give the nut  a heavy clout with a hammer on the nylon rim you will distort the nylon to allow it to grip again.

Is it a bodge - most definitely - but a bloody good one.

Thanks both bodge and loctite it is.

Shame they did not use castellated nuts and a penny pin.
