MadMarx
Last weekend were Spa Summer Classic with many Friends from Britain who came for racing.I had also my TR8 out for some trying to race but I wasn't satisfied with the car. I couldn't make the rear end stick and what I won on the straights with engine power and slipstream body shape I've lost on the corners. The car received minor damage at Spa.I had a little touching with a naughty Porsche and lost at high speed the roof spoiler and nearly crashed the car afterwards at the next high speed kink. After that race I went to race control to ask if they can return me the lost spoiler. The corner workers were so kind to bring it to my pit in almost undamaged condition...lucky I am. The race director said....my car was quite loud, but was one of the best sound on that weekend. I never had the idea that the roof spoiler might have any function on this car, as Group 44 always ran without....but after I've lost that spoiler I nearly lost the car at Blanchimont corner, going sideways and after that I was picked up by many Porsches and a Corvette, driven by a nice woman. So the spoiler does a lot to the cars handling. Best lap of my car was a low 2:48. But it should be quicker. I've lost in sector 2 about 4 seconds on the competition. The last race of the weekend, I went out again without roof spoiler and used that race for tire pressure tests. I've lowered the cold tire pressure 17 psi. At the beginning the car was expectable not easy to drive but after the tires went hot, the car was close on the edge to be not drivable. The difference between my normal cold pressure of 22 psi and the power pressure was 5 seconds slower. so low pressure is not the answer to make the car stick, more to make the car sick. Motorsport Mickey
Yes the roof spoiler "shapes" the airflow to help it deliver force to the boot lid spoiler. Without the roof spoiler the air flow delaminates from the rear of the roof behind the rear window because it is nearly vertical, ( like a Kamm ? Tail I think it's called from memory. I think that 7 deg is the max change in deflection that bodywork should make to try and keep the air boundary layer attached to it, If the rear window shape could be changed by extending where it attaches to the bodywork rear wards as much as possible it would feed air onto the boot spoiler making it much more effective. That change may not be allowed in your championship of course. But all information is good even when negative, now the next decision might be the big step forward. MadMarx
I've made two snapshots with roof spoiler and without: This seems a good hind that the roof spoiler is doing great at high speeds. Edited June 27, 2018 by MadMarx

Dave McDonald
Hi Christian, Do you have any film of the Classic race from the TR4? I would be interested in seeing that. Dave McD
MadMarx
Sorry Dave, no footage from the TR4. The camera system is in the TR8. You did very well. No chance for me to catch you guys.
Dave McDonald
Ok, thanks Christian. We had a fantastic weekend. I seem to remember that you got very close to me. In the Sunday race I finished 9th on the road but got a 30 second penalty for overtaking a very slow MGB under yellows between Turns 13 and 14, so I was demoted to 12th in the final results, behind you. I got very close to the elusive sub 3 minute lap but didn't quite break it, by 15/100ths of a second. Perhaps next year with new tyres. Dave
MadMarx
Seems I need to hope on rain next time.
john.r.davies
Interesting discussion! I have a similar (in intent, if not function) tail spoiler on the Vitesse, that I can get away with under the "silhouette" regs because it's between the tail fins. A flow directing scoop like yours might make it work better! But I fear it couldn't be allowed - too visible! Sorry never got a chance to say hello again, Christian! Motorsport Mickey
"A flow directing scoop like yours might make it work better! But I fear it couldn't be allowed - too visible!" Extend the length of it to just above the windscreen and sell it to them that's it's a "Safari Roof" like they have on Land Rovers Mick Richards
MadMarx
The good thing on mine spoilers is that they have been tested in windtunnel for some time. So they work.....but I've never got the idea that they work THAT MUCH that you nearly crash.

John This time we were up in the F1 pits. I had only two short visits in the valley, when I had let change tires at Adams and Page. Had a nice chat with Richard Wos.
