AarhusTr6
Hi So I am sure the guy I bought my TR off in Canada is a decent and respectable bloke. He has done 'service' but what he has/has not done I am unsure. So here goes, what are the top 5/10 things you would do, on this car which is apparently running and I'd like to run over Summer and slowly, as and when restore better. Car was pretty much standing for 6-7 years and is driving etc. Just wanted feedback on what you'd check, change. I have a new sump gasket for an oil drop and plan oil/filter change. Will check brakes etc but again, appreciate any insider tips. Cheers Rich
foster461
Rich, congrats on your new purchase. In no particular order.. Check oil levels in differential and gearbox Change engine oil and filter unless you know for sure that this was done recently Remove all four wheels ad rear brake drums and check for leaks Check all brake lines and connections for leaks Check clutch slave cylinder for leaks Check fuel lines for leaks Check radiator and hoses for leaks. Dont forget the hoses in the footwell that connect to the heater. They are a pig to change and often neglected. With the engine running operate the heater valve several times and see if it ruptures. Have a spare handy. Examine the wiring loom and look for any hacked up connections that may fail (modern crimped connectors and insulating tape are clues) Lift up the front carpets and verify that the carpet, any underlay and the floors are dry Check the Stromberg diaphragms for tears and overall condition. Verify that all of the instruments work Take it out for a test drive, go through all the gears and OD function if fitted and listen for any bad noises. Post pictures. Mark69
If your dropping the sump, may be a good idea to check your end float on crank.
