Ventilation flap seal/thingy?

Recommended Posts

Apologies in advance for this post. The fresh air vent control on a TR7 opens a flap behind the pair of fresh air vents at the centre of the TR7 dash. When closed no cold air should come out of the fresh air vents. On my DHC it does. This is because the metal flap behind the vents does not seal when closed. Obviously there is some sort of seal/gasket or whatever that would normally make the fresh air vent air-tight when closed.

That was a mouthful! I want to order said seal/gasket(?) but can't find out what part it is in the Rimmers on-line catalogue or S&S PDF catalogue. Can anyone help out?

Malcolm,

The original seal fitted to your car when manufactured was a foam sheet, which in vertually all TR7 & TR8 well perished by now. This Brown foam by now tends to break free and blow into the car interior.

You can access some of the interior fan flap vents from the engine bay with the air intake plenuim fits and suggest after removing any old foam from the flaps, you buy some one sided self adhesive foam strip and just fitted to the edge which is the only place the two faces meet.

This should stop the fresh air entering from the engine bay vent area.

Also make sure the flap is adjusted to close fully. There are control rods clamped into the levers and quadrants, which you can access if you pull the centre console apart. You may well find the flap is not closing off the vent properly, especially if someone has had the heater apart to fit a new matrix.
