4 pot cam shaft/valve timing

Recommended Posts

Hi Roger,

I could have sworn I suggested that approach but can't for the life of me find it.

I've done the last (2) installations ( same engine, 3rd camshaft was up to snuff ) by putting the crank at TDC according to the mark on the pulley, inserting the camshaft with #1 and #2 lobes up and about equidistant from the top, fitting the sprocket/chain, turning the engine and matching the specified angle of the #1 valve's opening to the actual loading of its pushrod, i.e. just barely won't turn anymore. ( On the 6-pot there are only (2) sprocket positions and then the bolt hole clearance to tweak it a few degrees fore or aft to work with. )

If you find the cam is advanced 2-3 degrees from specified position you have provision for chain slack to come ;) .

FWIW, Racetorations was in the habit of using that method last I knew.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I'm sure I read something similar to what I did so you probably did post it.

However reading something and inventing something gives a different slant on it even if it is the same.

many thanks to everybody that has posted on this subject. I'm sure it will help somebody in the near future.

Roger
