roughground
Can anyone suggest an easy way to remove the carbon build up on the pistons/ cylinder head. I have the engine to bits while the crank is renovated but don't want to damage the pistons by using abrasives?
Richard71
When you say your crankshaft is being renovated I assume it's being re-ground at a machine/engine shop??? Any engine shop worth their salt will have a chemical or acid bath or even an ultra sonic cleaner for carbon removal, have a word with the shop working your crankshaft. Regards, Richard. peejay4A
A wire brush in a drill won't do any damage. Edited October 21, 2015 by peejay4A
boxofbits
You can soften it with petrol (with care) or de-greaser and just scrape it off with a bluntish screwdriver blade, and then emery moistened with WD40, but taking care not to gouge of course. roughground
Thanks for the advice. Anyone know what would clean out the waterways in the block? Does the stuff you put in kettles have any effect?
