twice
A while ago I bought a gear box and overdrive with the intention of converting my TR6 to overdrive. I'm not sure if it is an A type gear box as I do not have the adaptor plate for it. How can I tell what type it is as I intend to sell it and don't want to misrepresent it as the wrong box? Also, an idea of value would be helpful. thanks Terry
DaveN
I think the easiest way to check would be the data plate on the o/d unit, and the A type had three switches on the top plate. Terry there's a rebuilt J type box with pictures for sale on the forum classifieds! Edited October 18, 2015 by daven
Rob Salisbury
All the TR gearboxes are by and large the same (the 6 pot boxes have thicker 14mm bell housing flange and an extra hole), just some internal differences, it's the overdrives that are 'A' type or 'J' type. 'A' type has a vertical solenoid, 'J' type has a horizontal solenoid, to help with identification .
Rob Salisbury
'A' type adaptor plate is a flat thing, 'J' type adaptor is larger and looks as if it's part of the overdrive.
stuart
"A" type has a large brass nut underneath the unit and a "J" type has a an ally ribbed base. Stuart.
