barry p cook
Rightly or wrongly at an early stage of the rebuild of the body on my TR4a I decided to opt for the Furflex door seal. The only welding left to do on the bodywork is to fit the reinforcing plates at the bottom of the 'B' post. I am sure I read somewhere that using the Furflex seal with the TR4a reinforcing plate makes it difficult to shut the door without giving it a slam. I think I also read that using the TR6 plate makes it easier to shut the door. Has anyone used the TR6 reinforcing plate on a TR4/4a and if so was the door closing problem eliminated? As ever any guidance much appreciated, Barry
peejay4A
Mine's original TR4 with the furflex seal and it shuts OK. Edited August 17, 2015 by peejay4A

stuart
The only thing you will find with doing it that way is the furflex/seal will mark a line eventually across the bottom rear corner of the door trim cards. If you use this seal from Woolies then you will have less of a problem http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1285-door-seal.aspx Stuart.
barry p cook
Thank you to everyone for their responses. It's good to know I have options. Anyone for a long length of black Furflex? Regards, Barry
RAHTR4
Hi Barry, On my TR4 most of the spot welded channel for the outer seal had rotted away and I could not see the point in replacing it, a complicated method and very likely area that would rust away again. Thus I opted to used the single furflex seal, I removed the original reinforcement plates and fitted the TR6 type plates. The seal then runs round the perimeter of the door, not over the bottom corner of the door card, the doors shut easily and seal well. I think it is an practical modification. barry p cook
Thanks Richard, I think you are right about the channels, mine were badly rusted and so I ground them off. Sounds like a good approach. Regards, Barry
