Halford Engine Oil Time Again

Recommended Posts

For your more modern cars Halfords are doing 4 ltrs of engine oil for £12, finishes 2 August but usually extended.

5w/30 for Ford better fuel consumption.

5W/30 for Vauxhall longer drain intervals

5W/40

10W/40

Not a great deal if your newer car takes 4.5 or 5ltrs there are better deals around for that as Halfords charge lots for 1ltr or 2 ltr bottles.

The Ford spec oil is a 12,000 mile oil change product and the base oil and additives are tuned for low friction and lower fuel consumption. It is at the lighter end of the allowed thickness range and will tend to have a higher burnoff rate,

The Vauxhall / GM mix is using a thicker oil at the top of the 30 weight and less volitile so not burning as much and has the additives tuned for say 15k to 18k mile oil changes.

It shears less quickly than the Ford oil and also will clean the internals a bit better and hold the dirt solution in order to allow the oil to last that bit longer.

The downside is that it is a bit less slippy so needs more power to turn the engine components, therefore higher fuel consumption.
