tr6tuga
Just got the head of and this is how the gasket looks! His it evident gas leaking? What is the general opinion? Tr was uneven running at low revs when hot. Plan to do the valves etc. Thank you Jose
TriumphV8
Gas leaking on the outside of chamber can be watched by water popping out of the radiator cap. Between the cylinders the gasket may fail, too what is difficult to see when fresh but later can be seen by dark areas and clean surface. As far as I can see the gasket was okay but the chambers are much too dark as the valves are also pretty dark. The exhaust valves start very early to get brown, yours are nearly black. Reason can be mixture setup but also worn piston rings/pistons/bore or worn valveguides/valves. Would check the head for straight gasket surface and establish 3-angle valve seats and do some grinding on the inlet and exhaust runners to get a smooth area because Triumph was a bit lazy with that. tr6tuga
Hi Andreas I agree , outside It looks is okay whater clean, inside some dark areas, no oil consuming fair pressure, s rule out pistons. Next, head sraitness and valves guides seatting. Thank you Jose
astontr6
Hi Jose! Looking at your cylinder head the fire ring marks which are the bright circular rings are not well defined on No. 1 cylinder, for example. This often indicates a leaking head gasket! As already stated I would have the head refaced and valve seats recut. Bruce,
