Topoff
I have recently had a chat with the owner of one of the convertible TR7 press cars (there were 22 and I only know of 7 or 8 that are definitely left) and he is thinking of selling as climbing in and out of it is getting too much. This car was made in 1979 and sent to the press garage at Canley for the UK model launch in February 1980. The convertibles were not available to the public until March that year. This particular car is interesting in that it has body number one but the vin number may not be the lowest of the 22. They all used the hard top vin sequence. The official production models had the new 1980 vin numbers. This car is in good all round condition and had dry use only for the last 8 years. I have no commercial interest in this car, I am just keen that these cars are preserved by enthusiasts that realise their significant history. You just have to look at the interest and values earlier TR models achive to see this car could be one to buy for the future. If you know of anyone looking for a TR7 with an interesting history let me know and I will pass on the contact details. Thanks. Topoff.

Topoff
Hello Christopher I do have some paperwork to confirm that all 22 of these JRW cars were convertibles sent to the press garage in Canley in 1979. When I have it to hand I will tell you more. The cars mentioned in the photo front row are 588 platinum silver, 593 and 600 Persian Aqua 581 white and 594 russet brown. 588 is the car that Keith owns and I think you are going to see? Laurence. acaie
Links for various photos from the March 1980 launch, including the one with thirteen of the fleet. I also have copies of the press releases and some road tests if anyone is interested. These all come from Stuart Birch, the motoring journalist, who sold me his Grinnall TR8 three years ago. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80872741/IMG_20150314_0001.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80872741/IMG_20150314_0002.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80872741/IMG_20150314_0003.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80872741/IMG_20150314_0004.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80872741/IMG_20150314_0005.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80872741/IMG_20150314_0006.jpg

RogerH
Hi Al, I have a TR4A and think that it has a great period shape. However the pictures you have posted certainly show the TR7 in its best stance and a good looking car. Over the years the 7 has been portrayed as a bit of an aunt Sally but to my mind this has been unfair. Roger
