RogerH
Hi Folks, hopefully my gearbox and OD come home tomorrow to fit back in the 4A. Today I removed the engine in order to make fitting the GB easier!! The engine has done a fair few miles (150K) since last removal and is quite grubby. When I set to in cleaning it I noticed a strange oil leak coming from an area around #2 exhaust port. The head/block interface looked oily so could be running down to the port. On the offside of the engine there appear to be no oil pipes, etc so where could it be coming from. I'm not in a panic to fix it as I will be pulling the engine in late autumn/winter for a bigger overhaul; but I seriously curious where it could be coming from. Lebro
Surely the head / block interface is below the port (unless engine has been fitted upside down) Did you mean rocker box / head interface ? in which case that would be the most likely point of oil leak origin. TR 2100
Generator/alternator bracket bolts go right through the block. Could that be the source? AlanR
RogerH
Hi Bob, Ha, Ha well spotted. The rocker cover looks fairly dry. The exhaust port is more oil and the BELOW that the head block interface is more oil still. It is probably the rocker cover as there isn;t that many othger places it can come from. Hi Alan, the Alt bracket looks dry (but very dirty). I'll do the rebuild tomorrow and look deeper into it later in the year.
