something I didn't know about the temperature gauge!

Recommended Posts

Wow

Dint know that either, now I have to pull it out and set it

So after 40 years how do you know if it's running normal or hot?

I think most Smiths Gauges have those little adjusters in them.

when i rebuilt my gauges over the winter i noticed these, but found they did not want to 'adjust' having been in the same position for 40 years !

I was able to "calibrate" my fuel gauge easily enough by setting the float in various positions and tweaking/re-tweaking the gauge sliders. I didn't actually measure the amount of fuel, just used a marked up dipstick in tank. So now when its full it shows full, same when empty and then when half filled as measured by the dipstick, so pragmatically it's correct/useful.
In principal you probably could do the same with the temp gauge, just have to think of a way of imitating the correct signal.
