Fireman049
Question:~ Are the engine block numbers a standard (10mm) size or do they vary? Tom.
graeme
Hi Tom, On the TR4/6 they are 1/4inch, not sure about the early cars. Cheers Graeme
Fireman049
Cheers Graeme ~ Very helpful. I'll do some checking with other members in the north Wales group. Regards ~ Tom.
Don H.
The engine number stamps are almost certainly inch-based, and fairly large -- maybe ½ inch? I'm not near my car to check... Somebody here will know for sure. Here's what mine looks like:
Fireman049
Hi Don ~ Very many thanks for that. Regards ~ Tom.
Don H.
Tom, is your idea to change engine numbers on a block? That might lead to inadvertent misrepresentation down the road. Think about a future sale when someone other than the fella that did it presents the car as original -- when it's not. I'm not sure that's a good idea...
Fireman049
Hi Don ~ Many thanks for that. No, I'm not changing the block number but trying to make it more legible. Tom.
Don H.
... trying to make it more legible. Okey-dokey. I hope you're better at re-striking die stamps than I am!
BrianC
Try rubbing some black paint into the numbers and they should show up clearly once the top surface is cleaned off. I've used this technique with chalk instead of paint to read worn engine, gearbox numbers.
Fireman049
Thanks Brian ~ My block numbers are hardly readable! Regards ~ Tom.
