JANA
Can anyone confirm that if the wiper blades/arms are NOT fitted to the vehicle, the wipers do not require to be tested as an Historic vehicle? TR 4a 1967. Bob.
ianhoward
I would have thought that would only be the case if no windscreen were fitted... or aeroscreens. Cheers Ian
Alec Pringle
Sorry Bob, but you cannot be serious . . . . . . http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s08000201.htm Cheers Alec

BrianC
MOT manual seems to be clear on the wipers but also implies that working washers are mandatory. Whilst I have no issue with that, washers were an optional extra on sidescreen TRs, so I wonder how the MOT tester would treat an 'original' TR which had never had washers fitted (although I doubt such a beast exists now). Alec Pringle
Windscreen washers became a compulsory fitment long ago Brian, regardless of the age of vehicle. The fitment of working washers became part of the MoT test in 1977 or 78, but the requirement to fit them retrospectively had come in a few years earlier. Any aspect of MoT rules can be checked, chapter and verse here - http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4i00000101.htm Cheers Alec
BrianC
That makes sense Alec and also downloading the manual is useful for all MOTs as often even the best of testers can be confused by the increasing complexity. Forewarned is forearmed!
