AlanG
Hello to you all. My first post since acquiring a TR a few weeks ago after a 46 year gap in TR ownership. So he goes. My TR4A is a non O/D car but with it came an additional TR6 J type O/D gearbox. When I eventually fit it should I include a relay in the wiring. The majority of opinions seem to be not. I think mainly based on the fact that the OEM TR6 installation did not include one. Just wondered if that was considered correct? Autosparks list O/D wiring harnesses both with and without a relay. peejay4A
Welcome to the forum Alan. The J type operating solenoid works differently to the A type and a solenoid is not necessary. That said, my restoration has a J type and I have included a relay and I have wired it as per the A type in the event that I change to an A type in the future. AlanT
As usual with overdrive questions the answer will be on here: http://www.vtr.org/maintain-index.shtml Even if it isnt there will be something here you need to know. Al.
peter clarke
No need as J type uses low current draw to operate thru 1 x coil. A type solenoid has 2 x windings, It uses plenty amps to operate and pull in core which then disconnects heavy winding leaving low amp draw thru second winding to maintain overdrive in on position.
