Uprated Brakes - what are these from ?

Recommended Posts

When I bought my TR7 it came with these uprated brakes, Ventilated Discs, back plates & hubs.

They were not fitted to my car but in a box of spares which the previous owner was going to fit.

Does anyone know what they are originally from - a Ford or Princess ?

Once I know I'll be getting rid of them as I won't be fitting them.

If anyone is interested PM me - they appear to be overhauled calipers as seals look new & the discs are unworn. Hubs would need new bearings to be on the safe side.

They're two pot calipers so not Princess.

I couldn't say if they are TR7 but it looks like they have had sandwich plates installed to allow for the ventilated discs.

Ah well that narrows it down a bit - looking through flee bay they might be 2.8 Capri Vent Discs & calipers.

The caliper pistons are certainly bigger than the standard ones on my TR even with only 2.

Take this was a common conversion a TR7 ?

Hi Neil,

Indeed Capri 3.0/2.8 assemblies, and yes with the sandwich plates for vented discs. A simple and effective conversion that gives adequate stopping power for a decent V8 (as opposed to just the boggo TR8 lump) but which works well enough with the standard 7 master cylinder and servo.

If I might put in a word for TIMS, he may well be interested in this kit if it's for sale. I'll email him !

Cheers,

Alec
