Front disc upgrades - What is OK for classic rallying?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

With regards to competing a 1969 TR6 in classic rallies, particularly HERO events, what of the available modifications are permitted to the front brakes? Having read the rules, I am none the wiser...

I think that the off-the-shelf options are:

1. Original calipers, plus cross-drilled disc, original diameter and thickness.

2. Original calipers, split to accommodate: vented discs, original diameter, thicker width.

3. As per 2, but discs also cross-drilled.

4. 4 pot, non-original calipers, vented and cross-drilled discs, larger diameter, thicker width.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul

Front brake mods are very limited by both HRCR, MSA, HERO and CRA rules; basically you can have solid discs and original calipers. Pads are free choice. Vented discs and alloy calipers are banned, drilled and slotted discs are very iffy and strictly speaking not permitted, although I have seen them run by some competitors. You can actually make the brakes work very well with the standard set up by adjusting it all up finely and usin quality parts and high friction pad material, so its not necessary to cheat!.

Regards

Tony

Hi Nick, Tony,

Thank you for your replies. Pads it is then.

Hi Paul

Just backing up what Tony said, I've uprated lots of stuff on LNK but the brakes are standard all round, currently with Mintex pads. Quality parts and set up and they're fine for track work (10 lap sessions) and hill climbs, sprints. Not done a stage in them but would expect them to hold up equally well.
