If you mean a tiny step on the outside top corner of the ring, then this ring, on other vehicles, normally goes in the top position. It is to avoid the new ring hitting the ridge formed at the top of the cylinder due to the wear caused by the old ring. Not being an authority on piston rings I hesitate to say I am absolutely correct, and suggest you ring one of the TR workshops, as opposed to the parts shops, and seek their advice.

Cheers for the info. The TR shop say that the ring with the step is the midle ring, with the step facing down.Paul.

Paul, does this mean that the NARROWER FACE of the ring must look downwards?

Thanks.

Jesus
