RAHTR4
Dave, Well spotted........!!!!! Have you got another side screen car to fit it onto..........???? Regards, Richard
Davepowderblue
no extra car for it to go on yet . But nice to replace a replica with an original Weird thing is seller said it came off a Riley , thats the second time I heard of that yours David S
Alec Pringle
The seller may well be correct, albeit a few years early . . . 1933-36ish Riley aeroscreen is almost identical to the original TR2 item. But guess what, it doesn't quite fit. How do I know this arcane oddity ? Because I had several 30s Rileys in my youth whilst playing with TRs also. Davepowderblue
same odd glass shape ? and rubber seal on the bottom of frame ? David
Alec Pringle
Hi David, Yes indeed, and not the only aeroscreen of the early 30s to feature both that slightly bellied out glass profile and a rubber strip below. The original TR2 profile was a throwback to 20 years before . . . . I presume the 1930s product was of proprietary manufacture, having seen what appeared to be very similar screens on several marques. As a lad I spent a lot of time at VSCC meetings - dashboards and screens were aspects I found particularly interesting, some of the 20s and 30s dashboard arrays were veritable works of art ! stuart
And on my chuffing doorstep as well!! Oh well you cant have everything. Stuart
Davepowderblue
thanks Alex we always thought Triumph had to have copied the design off someone else . So much nicer than the common caste Brooklands ones . Been to VSSc meetings and today they all seem to run on modern type Brooklands . David
Davepowderblue
Well it arrived Triplex date stamp for 1954 , it fits a TR . Amazing how old chrome polishs up so nicely . Frame had not been touched for years David
RAHTR4
Dave, Great that it turned out to be genuine item......!!!!! What now - one more to find for the other side perhaps. Regards, Richard
Davepowderblue
Well Richard I sort of have the other side . Apart from the fact some idiot has cut an inch off the height of it and messed the feet up . He made it into a Brooklands type !!!!!!! I have the technology , it will be rebuilt David
