rpurchon
they are a tapered thread.try a sharp chisel to get them turning, they will become loose very quickly. or drill through and use a stud extractor. why do you want to take them out anyway. richard

Stevie P
Absolutely take them out, drill and stud extractor. Also remove the one at the front, its a lead bung, as is the one above the oil filter. Tap these and fit threaded plugs back in. Imperative to do and flush out the oil galleries. Guest ntc
Hi Pinky As Stevie says they need to come out! They are there for a good reason. Most of the 2bob engine reconditioners do not bother.
John L
There a couple of other ways to get them out, you could try heating them up with some gas, often it will soften the locktite, or use a socket that will just fit over the plug and give it a good bang with a copper hammer so not to damage the socket, this works for many tight plugs and loosens the tread. Make sure you can get replacements first if you have resort to drilling out! John
pinky
hi guys got them out mine were not tapered, parallel grub screws they all came out with an extractor one wouldn't, always one, had to re drill and tap but went ok could i have some more information on the other bungs that have to be drilled out cheers pink
88V8
...mine were not tapered, parallel grub screws . I thought untapered. Was expecting to see something like iron plumbing fittings. You have to mic them to see the taper. 1/4" NPT Allen-headed taper plugs. Ivor

I would, you need to flush sludge from the gallery, chemicals alone one shift it, you need to blow from the front plug all the way through. Steve

Stevie P
Thanks steve i will do that, have you run her in yet? nick. Hi Nick 220 miles on the new engine, need to get it to 300 - 400 to change the oil and open it up, but with this weather, that's going to take some time! Steve
