Lord Flashart
Anyone else tried the delrin bushes in the steering as a replacment for the silent blocks? I fitted them on Friday night and the steering is transformed!! Looks like all the problems that I've had with the steering was related to the silent blocks! The car feels much more secure in the bends now. The bad news is that just as I've got the car as I want it, I have to put it on sale. The wife and I are looking to move back to Canada and the only way we can afford it is to sell either the baby or the car. Apparently the baby is not for sale so it has to be the TR. The deal is though I can buy another resto project as soon as we get there so I'll still be a TR owner, just with a couple of months gap. So anyone looking for a '59, green, left hand drive drop me a line. I'll be putting full details on the sales and wanted in a couple of days. Paul
jbenajes
Paul, do you mean the two bushes in the centre tie-rod? I wanted to change these rubber bushes, and got two of the upgraded delrim bushes in ebay, but before installing them observed a noticeable play between the bush and the fulcrum pin. I am not sure if this clearance is normal and it will disappear after bolting everything down. Did your delrim bushes and pins have some play, or a firm fit? Lord Flashart
Mine fitted with no play at all. I had to tap the bush into the centre tie rod. Paul
Ron Jolly
Hi just fitting the Delrin bushes in my Tr3. It might be a daft question but does the Delrin washer(s) go directly under the pin head on top ot the tie rod or between the tie rod and idler arm & steering box arm. My guess is the latter, as this would reduce friction between the inter tie rod and the idler and steering box arms. However, with friction this could be said of having the washer under the pin head. I have attached some pics of the two scenarios.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
First a question. What bushing is in the lower wishbone to chassis of your car that it requires a grease nipple? Answer to your question. My car has the washer above. That follows both Moss (delrin) and Revington (Phosphor bronze)pictures. Lebro
I had the Delrin bushes fitted, there was no discernable play in them. I now have R & P steering so no longer used. Bob
