Ade-TR4
Moss hoods seem to be a s good as any, and have improved greatly over the last few years. Other than that, ask your local TR specialist: some have their own "Trim-Guy" that they like to use and could probably point you in the right direction. Cheers Adey
Badfrog
Ebay, for unbeatable value. And you don't have to drive with a stupid new top, you get "seasoned driver" instant karma for the same price. And may be some rust stains if you're lucky. Badfrog. .... It's the style... Reinaldo
Nick, I had a bad experience with Moss. Beloow is my post describing what happened. Reinaldo ========================= Jan 14 2009, 01:13 PM Post #1 Hello, I bought a mohair Soft Top from Moss UK for my TR4A a while ago. When installing it I realize it does not fit the car. At the top of the side windows the curve does not match with the curve of the window glass. It was necessary to change several sewing and add more material (MOHAIR) to overcome the problem. Here I have four pictures showing what happened: www.triumphcars.com.br/MossSoft/sewing.html The former AMCO soft top that I had for the last 15 years was fitting perfectly, but since I have done a complete restoration on the car I thought it would be better to replace it. People at Moss UK said that this is the right soft top to the car and so it is my problem. Even if I decide to spend more money to buy another one I really dont know where to buy a good quality. Does anybody else have faced the same problem by any chance? Thanks in advance for any help. Reinaldo
Ade-TR4
As I said, Moss have improved recently: Their trim dept is now independently owned. My Moss TR4 top is of the older type where the verticals do not match the webbing on the frame - really irritating, but the fit otherwise is very good. Have a look at Presitige Car hoods. The web site seems to offer several material options and promises an accurate fit. I know my local TR supplier uses them, but I'm still going to go and check one out before parting with the cash. Cheers! Adey

David B
Nick, I am having a Moss mohair hood (beige lining and zip window) fitted by Enginuity at the moment. Spoke to them this morning and they say it looks and fits great. Picking it up on friday and will let you know. David
David B
Nick, Have picked up the car from Enginuity. They have done a fantastic job and the Moss hood is an excellent fit. The beige lining does brighten up the interior. I had new window mechanisms fitted (also Moss and seem to work very smoothly) and the screen frame reset and P rubbers running down each side, so the windows fit snugly. Wind noise has dramatically reduced and hopefully more waterproof. Door mechs seem a reasenably easy fit but glad I didn't attempt the hood fit or screen adjustment. David. Ade-TR4
New vinyl soft top acquired from TR-Bitz (mad by Prestige I think). Fitted by me using lots of sweat/ swearing. It's tight as a fish's bum at present, but looks great and has all the correct bits in the right places. (Photos to follow). Checked out a mohair one, but decided to go for a vinyl one again. had17462
Thanks david- adey for the replys, adey did you look at the mohair one? regards nick.
Ade-TR4
Hi Nick The Mohair one looked very nice! I saw one in the show room and it looked very well fitted. However, I've seen very poorly fitted ones and they look "baggy". I prefer the "stretched" fit of the vinyl now I've done a comparison. I also have issues with the thickness of section the fits under the windscreen capping and just how bl00dy tight the material is. I've struggled to tension the vinyl one on the frame and had to make minor adjustments to frame position etc, but the mohair one I tried previousl had zero-stretch (and apparently shrinks a fraction when it's been wet!) If you get chance to look at Pete Knapper's car at Malvern he has a mohair hood, and it looks great. I stuck with what I knew and went for vinyl again as the original one I fitted improved with stretching and "grew to fit" the car! Shame the rear window was the wrong shape (the verticals weren't, making the webbing visible, The piece along the top of the windows was too short and leaked a bit... irritating ) Don't forget mohair is roughly twice the price too! 88V8
Don't forget mohair is roughly twice the price too! and a dirt magnet and needs regular reproofing For the mohairy look, buy a mohair cover. If it's properly fitted, the vinyl hood won't show underneath it, so it will look good without the mohair cost and impracticality. had17462
Hi all, has anyone dealt with or bought a hood from european hoods, i think they get there hoods from america. regards nick.
BrianC
For the mohairy look, buy a mohair cover. If it's properly fitted, the vinyl hood won't show underneath it, so it will look good without the mohair cost and impracticality. I can't begin to imagine what a 'mohair cover' is, let alone why one would fit one over a normal hood. Can you explain?
had17462
Hi brian its not the cover iam interested in, its a new soft top, it was ivor who suggested that you could by a vinyl soft top then cover it with a mohair cover ,looks like prestige or moss who supply the best ones?
