Running Rich?

Recommended Posts

The car runs well, starts OK and does not run on at all. It idles happily at 650rpm.

When I remove an injector to check the spray, the RPM increases to 1050RPM.

To my mind, would this say that the engine is running rich? Shouldn't reducing the amount of fuel decrease the RPM?

Thanks in advance

Dan

Dan,

Mines the same the revs increase when you remove an injector to check, so i think thats normal. ;)

Hi Dan.

Removing an injector to check its spray cone is creating the same effect as a manifold gasket leaking air into the system, which effectively will weaken the mixture and cause the rpm to increase!

Normally, as long as everything else is all set up ok,an over rich fuel mix will cause things to slow down,"pull the choke out when its warm and see what happens"

As long as all injectors are giving a good cone spray when you check them, and if your car starts, runs, idles, responds ok,then dont mess with it!

Have you tried to plug the hole that is created by the removed injector, whilst it is running at 1000 rpm? When plugged, the is no air entering anymore the collector and the engine will run on only 5 cylinders and (I guess) slower than the normal idling speed.
