Winter has set in and with the wind roaring outside, going into the garage is not top of my list, but it must be done, much later.

I’d like to wish all our TVG Members a Happy New Year and a hope that Christmas turned out well. The last Sunday of 2019,will have had a large turn-out at The Surrey Oaks, I’m sure, however without a ‘crystal ball’ I can’t see forward.

2020 brings a memorable year for TVG as it marks the date we became the first club to be affiliated to the newly formed TR Register. 5th of June is going to be our celebratory date with a gathering being arranged at the Surrey Oaks. Alas, our actual date of the 7th is not practical for the pub.

But enough of looking to the future, things quieten down this time of year but there is a rumour that Richard Hunt, who is into a long awaited re build and could be getting close to completion. His engine has gone away for some major work. Richard just put June in your mind!

Alan Warburton has organised the delivery of our 50th Celebratory clothing, with logo designed by Kent. Alas my jacket is a bit tight, and that’s before Christmas! But we are ready for the 50th.

Our move to the Stepping Stones is now successful following a change to the third Wednesday of each month; we can now breathe in the car park and find a seat.

And so to my garage- As mentioned, in the last issue, my TR6 differential started a nasty metal scraping squeak which turned out to be a broken plate assembly. Gareth (who also has a TR6) offered to help remove the diff, to gain further knowledge. Having struggled, it came out, and Gareth announced that another bit was also broken, the pin on the cross member. Now what do I do? Many discussions down the pub, came with suggestions that I take the body off. Having a small single garage, I’ve opted to create a box section to fit in. Angle grinding as we speak. Gareth is returning to add some welding. I wonder if he regrets moving from a Volkswagen Beetle to a Triumph! With any luck my car will make the Hopcrofts Holt meeting.

We have changed the venue and timing of our mid-month meetings which are now at: The Stepping Stones Pub in Westhumble, Dorking (RH5 6BS) on the third Wednesday of each month from 20:00.The main meeting is unchanged (12:00 at The Surrey Oaks (RH5 5DZ) on the last Sunday of the month). This seems to be attracting more people (particularly if it’s warm and dry) and we’ve got a reserved area at the back of the pub car park for our TRs.We’re a friendly bunch and new members are always welcome – do come along whether you’ve got a TR or not! Please see the TR Register website for more information: www.tr-register.co.uk/thamesvalley.
