Balancing Wire Wheels

Recommended Posts

I had the same concern in my area (Hayes Middx) having read the Moss catalogue about setting the wheel up in the correct way on the balancing machine.

I overcame this by getting one of my old splined adaptors and inserted a large plastic (or wood) bush down the centre hole with an I/D to the bush the same as the balancing machine spigot O/D. Using an old spinner with a hole drilled in it to pass over the balancing machine spigot and a flat machined onto the spinner outer face the whole thing would now sit happily on that balancing machine.

Believe it or not it worked very well until the next time I needed it and the tyre shop had changed their balancing machine that now had a smaller spigot - B*@@$r.

Hi All,

Sorry to jump on this thread but I too am looking for a decent wire wheel balancing outfit. Anywhere in the Surrey/Hants/SW London area. Any recommendations gratefully received.

Regards

Ian

Try MWS at Langley, Slough, just off the M4 - web www.mwsint.com Tel 01753-549360 - specialists in wire wheels, set up,

repairs, balancing, fitting and tyre supplies - you have to make an appointment and you will pay a bit extra, but its well worth it. I suggest (if you can) go during a week day. Regards Bill

Hi Barry,

What kind of adapter is required? Is this simply one of the adapters used to attach the wheel to the car, or something else?

Cheers,

John

Hi All, I eventually went to Enguinity and had great service and the job was done by people who know our cars backwards. No trouble with the 16 year old spotty kid either. The cost was comparable to a specialist tyre dealer and with no hassle in getting the wires balanced afterwards. No connection, just glad of good honest service. :D

Hi All

Just for archive info, while talking about balancing wires, if you are in the SW and want them balanced go to Phil at Treads in Torquay. I gave him a hub which he then had adapted for his machine and what a cracking good job he did for £5 per wheel.

All the best
