Engine suppliers

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My six is running reasomably well, i have carried out varoius mods to brakes and suspension and exhaust in the last few years, and have really started to use the car more and more.

I am hoping to do various trips to europe, i want the engine to be reliable and quick.

I have not really had any work done to the engine and feel that the car would benefit from having the egine re built or even replaced to a stage 11 mod level.

My question is can any one recommend a reputable company to do these works in the South of England, the closer to Poole the better as i am in the Channel Islands.

Any input would be appreciated.

Regrds

Hi Guy,

Revingtons aren't too far from Poole, probably the closest major TR specialist - and I could probably assist with a lift back to the ferry, as they're less than an hour from me and I'm an hour from Poole . . . but that's a very minor consideration !!

Neil's lads can certainly turn out good engines, and they do have the benefit of their own rolling road. Needless to say they are not cheap, but then there is always an element of 'you get what you pay for'. Over the years I've been impressed with the attitude, and I could speak just as highly of several other specialists.

Cheers,

Alec

Thanks Alec,

I am obtaining info from Neil,

Do you reckon its better to rebuild your existing, or replace the whole unit, was thinking of a Stage 2 modified engine and they aint cheap. ;)

Thanks for the offer of a lift i may well take you up on that.

Not sure which way to go will talk to Neil again, am sure i will have to save a few pennys, so not sure when but certainly within the next eighteen months.

Could always send the girlfriend out to work the streets. :P

or

Better still sell the kids

Regards

Guy

You could also try Colin Matthews at CTM Engineering (listed in the suppliers directory). He's located near to Botley in Hampshire - midway between Portsmouth and Southampton. He looks after my 6 for me - the place is always busy and as a general observation, his workshop is always clean and tidy.

I have been a customer of CCR of Amesbury for several TR jobs.

The proprietor, Ian Slark, does a first class job of bodywork restoration, and his father runs the engine rebuilding & tuning side of the business.

He has a rolling road and very experienced with Triumphs, TRs in particular.

I would recommend a quote, although they are often pretty booked up with work.

Southern Triumph have done all my major work in the past and I have not had any problems.

As they are only 2 miles from me, I have never had other quotes for work, but have not been too upset with their bills.

The guy who runs it is Mark. By all means tell him that Robert Bowman said you should call by way of intro

Thanks Robert.

I am probably going to put this work on the back burner for now, took the car out for a blast and she shifts.

But it is something i would like to do as i know nothing of the history of the engine or the work that others have undoubtably done to it.

Thanks to you all for your input it has helped me greatly.
