Drilling GB top cover to fit inhibitor switches

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

can anyone tell me the thread and pilot hole diameter required to drill and tap a

blank top cover to convert to O/D inhibitor switches?

Cheers

John.

You might find it difficult to obtain the tap thats all as its an odd size.

M16 X 2 is very close  & I have a feeling that repro switches might be that thread anyway.

Its a fairly coarse thread so thats probably how they still fit.

I use an M16x2 taper tap but don’t go full depth as it makes the fit a bit sloppy.

Hence why I use the correct 13TPI tap.

Pretty sure that when I bought a new switch inorder to add 2nd gear overdrive capability to my T2000 gearbox that it would not screw into the original threaded hole ( I swapped the switches around- can't remember why!) So opened up with the metric tap.

Odd as Ive not had that problem fitting new switches in existing holes. Mind Im a bit loathe to use new ones as theyre not particularly good quality
