AJAS
Hi all. Having installed an overdrive box, I've cleaned the old grease from the gearlever but the stuff that I have in the garage is nowhere near the same thick consistency. Took a trip to Halfords where only option was available and that didn't look heavy enough. Any recommendations gratefully received. Thanks in advance Tony
RobH
The old stuff probably looks thick because - it's old. Grease is oil dissolved in a thickening 'soap' base and with time the oil evaporates leaving just a hard thick residue.
Mike C
I use engine oil on the ball at the bottom of the gear lever.

Jonny TR6
I used white grease on my split screen ball joint. Had it apart a couple of times over the years and all seems well.

Steve 286
For items like that I would use just normal multipurpose grease
