Just stripped and thoroughly cleaned the carbs.  ordered jets, needles, needle valves, adjustable floats, gaskets etc from Burlen which should arrive Monday.

Finally understood a bit more about how SU’s work so hopefully many years of trouble free fueling to look forward too!!!

slide 30 of my IWE talk shows fuel level in jet not critical in running, constsnt depression will lift fuel 8 inches:

Parts arrived from Burlen and carbs rebuilt. Spent a long time adjusting the mixture and balancing them.

Car now seems to run better than it ever has especially the way it accelerates 

Thanks to everyone for their advice

ps think mixture still a tab too rich - should I leave well alone?
