barkerwilliams
I intend to replace my TR6 camshaft soon, probably engine in situ. Is there a way to check and measure for wear in the block’s camshaft bearing surfaces? I can visualise the timing chain end will be easiest to check, badly worn should be obvious, but how about the flywheel end where there is limited access? Are measurements of the existing camshaft journals the only practical guide to wear on the block bearing surfaces? Alan
Fireman049
Hi Alan ~ It's a shame that Triumph reverted to having the TR6 camshafts running directly in the block with no renewable bearings. Cost saving I suppose. Tom.
Waldi
The front one wear can also be visually determined, there will be a ridge in the middle. I used a dial gauge, but that was with bare block. I think you could still measure the 2nd bearing from the front side too. If the front one is ok, the others are probably too. Since you better replace the tappets too, its a head-off job. Waldi
