Surprising discovery.

Recommended Posts

Been looking around for some gear oil this weekend to top up the diff..

Tried local independent car parts store (usually very good) but only have GL5.. could order it in though, but ideally want it today.

Tried various garages.. either no gear oil or GL5 or wrong weight.

Finally went to by some BBQ charcoal at Wilkos (20 yds from the garage where the TR is) and walked down the meagre car maintainance aisle.. guess what.. Comma 80W90 GL4 gear oil!

cheers

Tim

Hope I can always get GL4 in Australia for my gearbox/OD, but I've always used GL5 in the diff because of the hypoid gearing.

Hi Mike,

I had a concern about GL5 in the diff last month but was assured on here that it is OK as there is no yellow metal in the diff.
