Goswell
Can anybody recommend a supplier for Millers VSP. Prices seem to vary accross the country. I've just seen 10 bottles at £32.0 plus £8.0 carriage, on the web, is that good ?
JRCWeedon
Frosts (01706 658619) do it for £35 for ten bottles plus £4.95 carriage. If you buy 20 bottles it is £60 post free. Regards John
robgeev
But in 2 years/3 cars of testing, I'd go for Castrol Valvemaster with Optimax over Millers-more cost effective as well, as it's not a full pot everytime. Millers seemed to make little or no difference, whereas the Castrol stopped all the pre-ignitions occurences. Rob.
marvmul
As an ocane booster, instead of Miller VSP, Miller CVL is widely used in classic racing and generally recommended as a worhtwile combustion controller to prevent engine damage. But it is expensive for daily use. Miller has a new product : CVL Turbo Octane Booster : when used with Shell Optimax, the RON octane number is raised to 101 to 102. They claim that this is proved by independent tests. But a bottle of500ml, 6.80 pound excl TVA, only treaths 20 litres of fuel to get this result, making the fuel about 35% more expensive than without this additive. ianhoward
Many people refer to Shell Optimax (due to the higher octane content). Does any of the learned souls know whether this differs much from other 'Super Unleaded' brands? Now tha Tesco have started to offer this higher octane juice (99RON) coupled with Castrol Valvemaster, the octane rating is around 101...
robgeev
Just Google'd Optimax, trying to find what goes into the stuff, came across this link Those lucky Aussies can get 100ron fuel with 5% ethanol! When are we going to get some hey? Rob. Edited March 11, 2006 by robgeev
Roger H
Those lucky Aussies can get 100ron fuel with 5% ethanol! Sounds good Rob, but it may not be as attractive as it sounds....http://www.fcai.com.au/ethanol.php/2005/11/00000005.html To quote from the article: "Fuel Injected Engines In addition to the issues mentioned above for carburettor equipped engines, the use of ethanol blended petrol in fuel injection systems will result in early deterioration of components such as injector seals, delivery pipes, and fuel pump and regulator. Mechanical fuel injection systems and earlier electronic systems may not be able to fully compensate for the lean-out effect of ethanol blended petrol, resulting in hesitation or flat-spots during acceleration." We have not yet got the product here in Western Australia (W.A. is quaintly known to stand for Wait Awhile due to our isolation!) but we do have the BP 98 Ron fuel (currently at about $1.30 a litre). This seems pretty good for day use but there is always the temptation to add a little avgas or additives on track days.

I think it is very optimistic to assume that the octane will raise from 99 to 101 with Castrol Valvemaster. In general the claims of octane boosters is exaggerated a lot (This was established some months earlier on this forum);
