riverstar
I recently fitted an electronic ignition system, a new fuel pump diaphragm and a new pump outlet valve (the old one was sticking). The car starts without any problem and when warm idles at a steady 800rpm and will also rev freely however on the road it is another matter. Even when hot it drives in spurts as if it needs some choke which when applied doesn't make any difference, I have no evidence of a blockage, the tank is two years old and I run with a fuel filter which is clean so I suspect that the pump is not delivering sufficient flow under normal driving. My question is how can I check the flow or is there anything else I should consider?
Paul Harvey
Fuel pump parts are always suspect. Order a recon pump from Dave Davies for about £60 for peace of mind.
ChrisR-4A
+1 for Dave Davies, but also check the fuel filter by blowing through it not just visually. I had one of those awful glass tube ones and it looked fine but the nylon mesh of the filter had closed up and passed very little fuel . You could also remove pipe from carbs and crank engine collecting fuel in a jar, each spurt should give a good egg cup full and 5 or 6 seconds should fill a cup.
