jenand40
Help needed please. Have just fitted an Edelbrock 500 carb, Offenhauser manifold and 2" thick x 10" dia. air filter to my TR8, and I find that I cannot close the bonnet! Bonnet is about 1" from fully closing, with the top of the air filter approx. level with the top of the plenum chamber. As the car was bought as a failed restoration, am not sure what subframe I have, there are spacers fitted to the subframe to lower it further. Can I just get thicker spacers made or do I have to get another lowered subframe? Is there any way to determine which subframe I have? Many thanks.
Cinnobar
Mine runs 500, Offy 360 & 2 inch pancake. Also runs 1/2inch subframe spacers and has no clearance issues. Jim
mikehardwick
Jim - I'm in love with your avatar. Are there many like that in Kent? Mike
Cinnobar
Yup Chatham town centre on a warm day you'll see loads! Jim
anthonyt
The bottom of the airfilter can be pressed so that you get the clearance, i have done this with my race car, i wil email you a photo, the engine develops 350hp so the restriction doesnt seem to be an issue. martynharrison
This ought to fit but only if you have a lowered subframe. If it doesn't fit, that rather suggests that hasn't been done. ???
Guest Chris Draper
Just one question - which bonnet do you have? I vaguely recall from somewhere that you need the later double bulge bonnet to get clearance. Like Jim, I'm running the same manifold, carb & air filter without clearance problems (with the sub-frame lowering kit).
malcolm
Of course there are options for a single bulge bonnet
