cp25616
Hi all you sages out there! I am removing my horrible steering lock on my TR6 and putting the ignition back to where it should be, namely the cowl where the choke cable is. I have done that bit and it works fine but I need to get the sheer bolts out to remove the lock itself. I have had a look in the brown book and it says use a small chisel ? Is this the best an easiest way to do this? I would need a longish small chisel if that is the case. What have the rest of you done to get these "very annoying no-head bolts" or words to the equivalent out? BTW the rev counter is already out and so is the gearbox as the clutch needed replacing so I thought I would carry on with one or two improvements. All help gratefully received. foster461
Various techniques have been used, discussed a while back here. I liked the approach that was eventually used. http://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/44505-shear-bolts-on-steering-lock-removal-tips/?p=350651 Stan

Alec Pringle
Hi Alan, I've removed shear bolts from other (non TR) steering locks by first applying penetrating oil, then tapping round with a long sharp punch as opposed to chisel - that worked when the chisel couldn't get a grip, as it were. Cheers, Alec
cp25616
That would seem more feasible Alec, many thanks and I will give that a try. Kindest Alan
