The owner claims it is one of only roughly ten prototypes built for US crash testing and assesment purposes. It is badged "TR4a IRS, with the TR250 badge on the bonnet and boot. Engine is stripped with Stromberg carbs (six cylinder). Interior would seem to be that of a 5. It is on a D plate, could this be a rarity? Or is just a car that's been messed about with decades ago? Everything on the car does seem to be original, but it is difficult to be sure given the level of degredation the car has suffered. Fuel filler cap is the large aluminium magnetic one. Chassis number is CTC prefixed, which according to the Moss book puts it in the mid 1966 TR4a production run. Please put your thinking caps on for this one. Rob + Carl. There were as suggested some conversions but they hold no special value anymore than a V8 engined TR7 posing as a TR8. saffrontr Posted April 1, 2005 Report Share Posted April 1, 2005 Hi Rob & Carl, The body number that you quote is extremely close to a TR250 development car that still exists in the US. That one has body no 71055CT and commission no CTC70720-O and was sent to the US as a RHD six cylinder exhaust emission test car on the 15th July 1967. Confirmation of the commission number would be useful and I'll see if I have anything on it. Are you sure about the engine no as it looks like an early TR6 no except for the CT suffix.
