Steering rack lubrication

Recommended Posts

Sitting here just thinking about the steering rack without any books for backup.

I've got the earth wire from the horns attached to a brass screw on top of the rack, am I right in thinking that this should be either a grease nipple or an oil filler?

Some say oil some say grease for the rack, your help & views will be much appreciated.

Nick.

Remove the blanking plug and replace with a grease nipple. Give it a few pumps of Castrol LM. Turn the steering wheel lock to lock and add a few more pumps of LM.

Up to you if you put the blanking plug back in or leave the nipple in place. Make sure the earth is reconnected.

This only greases the rack itself. If you feel the need to lubricate the inner ball joints you will need to pull back the gaiters and do this manually.
