Racing film (color) from Kahuku, Hawaii - 1958

There are some serious cars there!

300SLs, D-types, Ferraris, open-wheel cars. Looks like one of Max Balchowsky's Ol' Yellers at 3:55, 4:28, 4:53, and especially at 5:09.

Great video.

If you think 58 had some serious iron, you should see what came over in 57 for the first "Speed Week" - drivers like Carrol Shelby, Phil Hill, John Von Neumann, and so on, with an array of cars you would not believe. That was the zenith though, as the 57 Speed Week ended in tragedy when Lou Brero crashed a magnesium-bodied Maserati A6GCS that burst into flames, killing the famous driver.

I'm sure the original handheld film had NO sound at all -- it was amateur film from 1958, after all. That said, I thought the music was kinda irritating, too. I did like the PA announcer in the distance late in the clip -- that was pretty authentic.
