hothersall
Hi All, I am trying out an electronic indicator flasher (Merit Malta) and not finding it as easy as described in several posts on the forum. On a LHD (USA) TR4A 1 have added 1 360 degree led bulb, the metallic strip flasher works but the green warning expires after 1 flash but all three bulbs flash OK. If a i have two LED bulbs in the circuit of three I just get rapid flashing....hence the need for electronic unit. When i wire 31 to earth 49 to 12 v supply (all green) and 49a to green/brown all indicators works fine. However if I loop in the green/purple (or is it grey) the third cable on the old version indicator block to 49a the green warning light works but in all poistions (left/right/middle). What do i need to do to stop the green warning light in the indicator OFF position...diodes? all sugestions greafully received regards John
tthomson
Hi John, The LG/P wire connects to ground via the indicator warning light on the dash. The green/brown wire leaving the flasher connects to the indicator switch. A lot of the electronic flashers operate all the time and it is the activation of the indicator switch that selects the appropriate indicators. If this is the case, connecting the dash light to 49a will cause the problem you see. An option to consider is to use diodes from the green/red and green/white indicator wires leaving the indicator switch, connecting these to the dash lamp rather than connecting this lamp from the flasher unit. If you send me an email address I can send an image of what I mean. Unfortunately, this forum does not allow drag and drop of standard image format (PNG, JPG, SVG, GIF) so it is just easier to send via email. You can click on 'Email me' in my signature. RogerH
Hi John, have you tried a more modern relay flasher - RFL5 is the type I use and appears to work well http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/relays/flashers.php it will need a seperate earth wire as the body is plastic. hothersall
Tony and Roger. Thanks for info, probably try diodes first if no joy will get a RFL5 if no modification to wiring needed Regards John
dpb
Hi Roger Bit of a problem with my indicator switch today (white smoke escaping from wire), and searching around I saw your old note about an RFL5 electronic unit. I thought I might upgrade to that too. Does it plug right in to the old socket (apart from the earth blade) or have you wired it up separately? Cheers Dave ====
RogerH
Hi Dave, it plugs into its own socket - will not fit the TRiumph socket. Its socket has a tag to enable easy fitting to the body. http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/product.php/626/12-volt-4-pin-electronic-flasher-relay Roger Edited September 29, 2015 by RogerH
dpb
Thanks Roger. I think I'll give it a try. Cheers Dave ====
