Alanretired
Recently in heavy rain I found that water was coming into the foot well through the accelerator cable hole in the engine compartment. I ran a hose on the window screen and found water filled the cup where the bonnet rubbers attach. Half of the water flowed off the cup at the side and ran between the inner and outer wing panel. The other half flowed forward and dropped onto the flat surface where the accelerator cable passes into the foot well. My question is do original bodies allow water to flow forward into the engine compartment or should this gap be filled with sealant. Regards Alan
RobinTR6
Ummmmmm, I'd be very surprised if that was part of the 'design' and a 'feature', but you never know. Rust prevention wasnt foremost in the eyes of the designers given the various rust traps. Anyways lets see what others say
Bill Bourne
Hi Alan All I can say is, that I had the same issue a long while ago, and solved it by putting some sealant in the gap where the bonnet rubbers sit and the engine bay. I used a black gasket sealant - can't remember the name of the stuff, but I only needed a small amount and it doesn't show and works a treat. No more wet feeeeet. best Bill
Alanretired
Bill Thanks for your note - I will try some sealant to block the water path. Regards Alan
