Lee Dutton
I have the same problem and have tried most of the suggestions made by other members, my engine has a stage 2 camshaft and I believe this is the culprit. The problem seems to be worse after a long run and I now put the car in first gear release the clutch and when it bites turn the ignition off and there is no running on. I would be interested in members opinions on this process. regards Lee
Peter Cobbold
Anything that can cause lean running and/or retarded spark can lead to slower combustion and hence hotter running exhaust valve(s). Any carbon deposits there could provide the necessary ignition source, and as Rien says incomplete mixture cut-off by the carbs provide the fuelling. A dose of fuel additive that cleans the carbon out of the combustion chambers should kill dieseling.

peejay4A
Slightly off topic but the other day I saw an oldish Mondeo diesel on the A14 consuming its own engine in the daddy of all run ons. Presumably something like a turbo blow up causing it to fuel itself on sump oil. The smoke cloud was visible for miles.
