How to reassemble a body

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Is there any particular recommended sequence when bolting together the body parts after a complete disassembly? I dismantled everything for restoration and painting, except that kept the tube on the chassis (it was not strictly necessary and wanted avoiding warping it)) and now I am confronting the reassembly.

In particular, what progression is the procedure to fit the following:

- Doors to their openings (by eventually adjusting spacers between body and chassis)

- Bolting down body to chassis

- Rear wings

- Front wings and apron

- Rear lid

- Engine lid

- Anything else

Any particular hints for more chances of success?

Thank you for your comments.

Jesus - Don't use a sequence for re-assembly. Put it all on with a few bolts and then check all the gaps. With the doors on, then the front wings, adjust the door to wing gap and the bottom of the door gap. If the bonnet has a larger gap on one wing, you may need to re-set the hinge points and slide one wing inwards and the other outwards up near the front of the TR. With the front valance in place (ask a friend to help avoid scratching the paint) and get the gaps the same height for the bonnet to the wings and the space equal all along the front of the bonnet where it meets the gap to the front valance. You may have to adjust the valance up or down to get the gap parallel. Just keep on doing this all around and when you are happy with the results, put in all the remaining bolts and check it all over again.

Firmly bolt it to the chassis first making sure they are both level then Dons sequence will work fine. There isnt much adjustment on the doors but a reasonable amount on everything else ;)
