Starter Solenoid

Recommended Posts

Daft, I know but I can't remember where the starter solenoid fits.

I think it goes on the bulkhead between the choke cable exit (Strombergs)

and the throttle lever, but does it fit with terminals towards the engine or away.

Terminals towards the engine.

Rubber covered plunger towards the inner wing.

(at least, that's the early TR4 SU carbs arrangement -

can't see any reason to change)

Hi Geoff,

unless you are going for concorse why not fit the solenoid where you can get to it.

I have put mine on the bulkhead below the brake & clutch master cylinders - loads of room.

That area between the battery/steering shaft and bulkhead side panel gets very cluttered.

There actually was a service bulletin issued regarding the location of the solenoid, at least in the US. In the original location there were occasional issues with fuel dripping on the solenoid so the recommendation was to move it closer to the inner fender:

Anyone know what size the solenoid to starter cable is (in mm2)?

I need to make a new cable to be long enough for the new location of the solenoid!

Why is nothing straightforward?!

Geoff

PS Amp loading may also help!!
