Oil level in the gearbox/overdrive?

Pitted contacts on the overdrive relay - this can cause high resistance such that the solenoid receives few or no volts. I've had two relays fail this way.

Check the relay. The repro relays can be totally useless, and the only way I was able to get reliable operation was with an original Lucas relay. I had the opposite problem (with two repro relays) - the overdirve would not disengage when warmed up, and the only way to disengage it was to turn off the engine and wait. Maybe Lucas wasn't so evil after all....
