Lord Flashart
Hi all, I'm trying to figure out how to reconnect my temp gauge on my 62 TR4. The cable from the sending unit was cut when I got the car so I have no idea where it's meant to go. I've heard that the gauge is driven by the voltage regulator. My question is, where the hell is it? My dash is stripped and the harness is out but I see no sign of the part I see listed in the moss parts list. The gauge is definitely electrical and not the capillary tube of a TR3. Paul
ianc
At the temperature gauge (on the dashboard - 30) there should be two wires connected to one of the terminals (one wire goes to the voltage stabiliser [27], the other to the fuel gauge). On the other terminal of the temperature gauge, there should be a wire running to the transmitter unit (31) which is in the thermostat housing. Numbers are as per Workshop Manual diagram. Because the transmitter is screwed into the housing, that provides the earth connection. Ian Cornish
lynchpin
Hi The voltage stabilizer which i believe feeds the temp gauge is (on my 62 tr4) fitted high up on the bulkhead/inner wing above the pedals in the offside footwell. Just out of interest the petrol and temp gauge allways read too low, on checking i found the voltage from the stabilizer much too low and replaced it with a solid state type available from e bay as poss or neg earth and now gauges read much higher.. Lord Flashart
Cheers Guys, I'll have a good look under the dash and see if I can find it!! All the wiring was striped when I got the car so no wires to follow. Paul
Vila
Sounds like an investment in a Triumph Maintenance Manual would be a good idea. They include the original wiring diagrams. Vila Visit my website at: http://mysite.verizon.net/vze114b79/
