nickthepedal
Morning All It has been pointed out that the gear stick on my 3A is not correct ( probably off a 4 / 4A ), it is I am told too long and not straight. From what I can see the original should be short and straight. Has any one got an original spare they would like to sell ? I assume this would be pretty easy to fit ? Cheers. Menno van Rij
Nick, searching for an original 3A stick? I would seriously rethink this! I wasn't too happy with the postion of the original stick under the dash: perhaps my arms are too short, but I always had to reach for the gear stick, touching the lower plinth (is that the correct word here) of the dashboard! I've altered the position of the g/stick in my car: bending it backwards/towards me. And to add that, I know of a few Group members overhere in the eastern part of Holland who've switched the g/stick of their 3(A and B ) for a g/stick from a TR4. Just my 2p. TR 2100
I always had to reach for the gear stick, My experience too, although it depends a little on other factors. If you have long arms, you can reach the original gearstick with just a slight stretch, rather than having to lean forward. Unless, that is, you have a pre-60,0001 car and do what I did - that's slide the seat right back, off the end of the runners (packer under) to give myself plenty of leg room. Long arms usually come with long arms! Suggest you try shifting gear with your hand on the bottom of the gearstick rather than the knob - can you reach easily? If yes, OK to go with the original stick. Otherwise . . . AlanR
nickthepedal
Thanks for your comments, always appreciated. I could be related to an Orangutan in that I must have long arms ( sure not got much hair ). Having driven 50 miles today I took to changing using the bottom portion of the existing stick, call me odd but it felt nice and quicker to change/ more positive. If I can find an original stick and it is not too much of a pain to swap I shall give it a try. Can always swap back. Cheers. Nick
