Moving on from the previous thread, having discovered that I have 87 mm pistons, I will now just check the ring gap and probably just replace the rings if they are worn.

I notice that on the Moss site 87 mm dia rings are NLS. Does anyone know a supplier and if they aren't available, can I just use 40 thou oversize rings for an 86mm piston set?

Obviously, I have to make sure that the lands are the same size and check the gaps, but is there anything else that would make it a no no?

My 1958 TR3A had 1991 cc displacement when new and after 80,300 miles in 1987, I bought and installed new pistons, rings and liners which I bought from Peter Hepworth in Yorkshire because these were also 1991 cc. I had them shipped to me in Canada. In 2007, after 94,000 miles on these pistons, rings and liners, I needed new rings but the Hepworth pistons are rather special with 4 rings per piston - whereas all the other ring sets are for the S-T pistons which have 3 rings per piston.

All I did was Google for piston rings and I found what I wanted directly from Hastings in Michigan. The lady on the phone at their customer desk looked it up and I gave her my Mastercard number and three days later, I had the set of rings (4 rings per piston) directly from the manufacturer. Their price was cheaper than if I had bought these rings from any supplier.

I suggest that you check on Google dirctly from ring mnufacturers.
