Jersey Royal
Hi Chaps, I have noticed that since fitting a new fan it seems to operate differently, in that it will come on when car is switched off ie parked up after a journey. I dont have any concerns about cooling, fan only really comes on in traffic, and switches off. I wonder what actually causes the fan to come on? other details are Thermostat by water pump is 72 degs rad thermostat fitted into top of rad housing 76 /82 and rad cap is 15 lbs. So what is causing the rad stat to switch fan on when engine is off? Cheers Guy
foster461
Guy, it sounds like your fan is wired to get power direct and not via the ignition switch and once you switch off the rad temp does rise for a short time due to that big lump of a heat sink behind it and that triggers the fan until the rad temp reduces and it switches off. 88V8
As Stan says, your new fan is hot-wired so it's always live. The fan on my Landy is the same, sometimes runs for a while when I park with the engine hot. Might help to reduce fuel evaporation. Or not. Anyway, not a problem. Geoff Davies
Hi, the fan should come on when the car stops as as the engine gives off the heat it has stored the temp rises with no air flow to cool. Just shows it is working fine, just make sure it cuts out after 4 - 5 minutes or so. Geoff

Jersey Royal
so it works then Hi Neil. Yup, the supply comes directly from the battery to an additional fuse box, then onto the relays. Cheers GUY
